Lexi's Diary

Lexi's Diary for her breeding with Bud

July 25, 2006

Dear Diary, I am so happy with my babies!  They are eating well and growing like mad.  For some reason I was put away in the car last night for a short time with the radio playing.  I am not sure why, but when mom came back to get me, I noticed that my babies smelled a little funny.  I think their tails were shorter and that their dewclaws weren't there any longer.  I am not sure what happened, but they are all doing very well!  I am able to get some sleep in now since they eat and take naps themselves now.  Life is good!

July 22, 2006

Dear Diary, the day after.  OH I am SO TIRED!!!  All my babies are doing well but I am beat.  Mom says I am a real trooper and a very good mama.  All the babies are gaining weight and are becoming active.  This is just the beginning!  I hope to rest more!!

July 21, 2006 - THE DAY - update

Everyone is all settled in and getting some food and rest!  The Puppy Picture Gallery is started with Week 1 pictures.  Either click here or in the sidebar to the left.

July 21, 2006 - THE DAY - 4 GIRLS and 3 BOYS!!

Dear Diary, what a wonderfully smooth delivery!  A BIG sigh of relief!!  All babies are healthy and dong well!!

AHHHH, all 7 are healthy!

Taking a very brief rest after #5

THANK YOU GRANDMA DIANE!!  My grandma Diane came to lend a hand and drove to our house at 3am!  She gave me and my mom a lot of support and we can't thank her enough for coming over to be there!!

I was REALLY good to mom the first litter by going into labor at 10am and being done with delivery by 6pm.  So this time I figured I would go into labor at 1:30am and finish at 7:30am!  I broke water on the first puppy at 1:30 and didn't start having contractions until 45 minutes later.  Once I had the first contraction, the first puppy girl was born:

3:10AM - IT'S A GIRL - 12.8 ounces

Plllllease!  I am not ready for my close up!!

Once I had the first puppy, I took a rest.  Then it was rapid fire after that!  I kept mom busy!  I was very glad that it was over so fast!  Pictures of all the babies are below.

5:25AM and a GIRL - 12.6 ounces

6:00AM and a GIRL - 13.6 ounces

6:13AM and a BOY - 12.9 ounces

6:35AM and a BOY - 14.1 ounces

6:56AM and a GIRL - 14.1 ounces

7:20AM and a BOY - 13.6 ounces

I am very exhausted after having babies all night so I will write again soon!

July 18, 2006 (Week 9)

Dear Diary, starting tomorrow I am in "those days" that are predicted for me to whelp.  The vet says tomorrow or Friday, and mom says Thursday.  Chances are one of them is right!  I continue to be very uncomfortable.  It is so hard to do anything.  At this point I just want to get them out so I can run around again.

My temperature has dropped a little this afternoon but it is too early to tell if this is the first sign.  More to come...

July 13, 2006 (Week 9)

Dear Diary, I am so fat and miserable.  I can't remember what I used to look like.  The puppies are moving around almost all the time now and I can't rest.  Mom says she sees them kicking and that it looks like I have been invaded by aliens.  You don't need to put your hand on my tummy any more to feel them - NO!  You can now see them with your own eyes!

It seems like such a distant memory when Bud was here and we were running around having fun.  Now the whelp is imminent and I hope it all goes smoothly!

July 10, 2006 (Week 8)

Dear Diary, guess how many puppies I am carrying:

July 04, 2006 (Day 47 ovulation)
Dear Diary, I am almost through my 7th week of pregnancy - only 2 more weeks to go.  I am feeling tired a lot and am taking a lot of naps.  I continue to gain weight and wish it would get cooler outside.  It is HOT carrying these kids around!

June 26, 2006 (Day 39 ovulation)

Dear Diary, not much to say these days.  I am starting to grow a little at 6 weeks pregnant.  I am starting to feel FAT and loose my beautiful figure - but I know that I am nowhere near what is coming!  At least I am over the hump - only 24 or so days to go!

June 15, 2006 (Day 28 ovulation)

Dear Diary, I got to see it on the monitor with my OWN eyes!!!  I AM PREGNANT!!!!  I didn't even have to lie down or get my tummy shaved.  The doctor let me stand and put that cold wand with the yucky jelly on my belly.  Low and behold I saw my babies!!  Since ultrasound cannot be relied upon for puppy count, we just saw 4 and then we stopped.  Click below on the picture to blow up and see my PRECIOUS babies - it is small to read otherwise.  I am a proud mama already.

I heard mom and the doctor say that my due date should be around July 20.  We will go back on July 10 for an x-ray to see how many babies are in there.  In the meantime, I get to milk this pregnancy thing for ALL its worth!  "Oh mommy, I am SO tired, can you please bring my food bowl to the couch so that I don't have to get up from my curled up position in the corner.  You know that being pregnant is SO much work and it is hard to get up!"  She buys is EVERY time.  YES, this is going to be a nice several weeks I will tell you!  "Mommy, I am so HUNGRY - please bring me 10 cups of food.  You know that I am not just eating for myself any more!"

June 7, 2006 (Day 20 ovulation)

Dear Diary, I haven't written for a while because I don't have much to say.  I will be going for an ultrasound next week to see if I am pregnant.  I have been laying around mostly and getting a little exercise.  Nothing much really to report for now.  It is getting to be the dog days of summer - pun intended.

May 29, 2006 (Day 11 ovulation)

Dear Diary, I have finally stopped spotting.  My boobs are swollen along with my back end.  But I am returning to life more usual these days after coming back from the "road" in NJ.  I went up there with my two kids Sydney and Sadie and cheered them on in the show ring.  Sydney won a point and they shared an additional 3 reserve wins.  Not bad, but maybe more points next time I hope.

May 24, 2006 (Day 6 ovulation)

Dear Diary, OH, what a difference a day makes!  That dog (I think his name is Bud) just comes up to me and climbs on me (literally MUGS me) like I invited him.  WHAT was he thinking!  I had to spin around and give him the evil eye!  Who does he think I am?  He keeps trying this over and over again.  Why in the world would he think that I would would possibly be interested in what he had to offer?!  After enough times of showing him my pearly whites he FINALLY got the message.  I am NOT interested.  Take it elsewhere PAL!  Mom also thought he should go home.  We dropped him off in CT today.  Thank goodness he is gone - I think he had a one track mind - NO IDEA why!  (Mom wants to add a very special THANK YOU to Saul and Kim Himmelfarb for letting Bud stay with us for so long!)

May 23, 2006 (Day 5 ovulation)

Dear Diary, I overheard mom jumping for joy over the progesterone result from yesterday.  It was 14.1!!  So, hopefully babies are getting ready to cook as we speak.  Now my eggs and the sperm do the rest - I hope!  UGH, but now that I think about it, it is only downhill from here.  Weight gain - labor - OH how the thrill is gone for me now.  MY MAN is going home tomorrow and my hormones are going to be changing anyway.  BUT, hopefully I get to have babies!!!  It is all worth it!!

May 22, 2006 (Day 4 ovulation)

Dear Diary, who types this thing anyway!  "I am not sure if my hormones are going to cooperate..."  HAH - what a joke!  Home-Sweet-Home, how I love to run free in the wide open spaces on a BEAUTIFUL cool and brilliant sunny day - UNTIL- I see Bud headed my way!  I quickly put on the brakes to wait for MY MAN!  He thought I was pretty special today!  We were tied in about 3 seconds - no playing around today or teasing - all business.  42 minute tie.  That is a LONG time to stand still I am telling you!!  We are now both taking a nice LONG nap!

Mom dragged me back to the vet earlier in the day to once again have me be a pin cushion.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to know where I am these days.  So I didn't protest at all.  We will see what happens for Wednesday...

May 20, 2006 (Day 2 ovulation)

Dear Diary, well mom really wasn't letting me have much fun today.  I had to go to Nouli's agility trial in MD.  So my time alone with Bud was with strings attached - LEASHES!  How fun is that?  I like to run around and make Bud sweat!  There is only so much I can do on a 4 foot lead.  But, this is about babies, so I made the sacrifice.  So did Bud.  We tied for 28 minutes.  The blood test saga seems to be ok now.  I heard mom say that my progesterone level was 2.2 on Thursday, so I should be prime today!  I think mom is going to give me one last try with Bud on Monday.  I am not sure if my hormones are going to cooperate, but we will give it a try anyway!

The best I hear is that I ovulated around May 19-20.  That means that my eggs should be ready for sperm to create babies within 48 hours.  Now the Diary is going to restart counting from the day of ovulation since all the critical dates key off of this important day.

May 18, 2006 (Day 17 cycle)

Dear Diary, I had my time with Bud this morning - yippee!!  True love I'll tell you!!  I still had to make him run a little bit though - what would the fun be without a little play!  He caught me and we tied for about 12 minutes.  Mom is still trying to work out the blood test thing.  As far I'm concerned I can say that I stood for Bud with my tail flagged and a BIG smile on my face and I don't show any signs that it is going to change before Saturday when I will have my time with Bud again!  Mom continues to try to figure out the blood thing though.  I think she is supposed to know something this afternoon.  Makes no difference to me!

May 17, 2006 (Day 16 cycle)

Dear Diary, I started the day today listening to mom yell on the phone.  I think she was talking to the vet.  Something about a blood test that read .9 when it should be higher.  So she loaded me up again and off we went.  When I got there I had a q-tip shoved up you-know-where for some kind of a smear.  I overheard mom say that everything was looking good but that the blood test didn't seem right.  So I was a pin cushion again so my blood could be collected and sent to a different lab.  Either way, I KNOW I am going to be alone with Bud in the morning.  So what do I care!  I don't need no stinkin' science to tell me what to do!  Neither does Bud!!  We will have our babies just fine, thank you!

May 16, 2006 (Day 15 cycle)

Dear Diary, what a GREAT way to start the day!  Mom let me alone with Bud again this morning.  I think I was too easy on Sunday, so I decided to make him work this time.  I had him play chase after me for a good 20 minutes.  We were having a great time.  Then both of our tongues were hanging out so it was inevitable.  We had to stop and mate - we were both getting too tired of the teasing.  We had a 15 breeding again!!  Hurray!  I want puppies!  I think mom is going to let me out with him again on Thursday.  I can't wait again!

May 14, 2006 (Day 13 cycle)

Dear Diary, mom let me loose with my MAN today for the first time.  OH BOY, alone with my MAN!  I am feeling awfully frisky these days.  Get out of my way - here I am Bud!!  I flirted and was a TOTAL tease!  How much fun is that!  He enjoyed it too!  I got his attention and we mated for 15 minutes.  Happy Mother's Day to me!  Bud was VERY happy to see me!  I am so glad that this won't be the only time.  I know mom will let me out again with him on Tuesday!  Can't wait!

May 11, 2006 (Day 10 cycle)
Dear Diary, I can't believe my eyes today.  My MAN has arrived!  Bud has come to stay with us!  Wooo hoooo!  Bud's owner's Kim and Saul Himmelfarb were very gracious to let him stay with us while they were away.  This way if I need Bud while they are away, he will be right here!  Thank you Kim and Saul!  Bud has been great company!!

May 9, 2006 (Day 8 cycle)

Dear Diary, mom took me to the vet again.  Pin cushion again.  Since I threw her for a loop by coming in early, she is now dragging me to the vet early to make sure that my hormones aren't early too.  The reading was 0.5, so since I won't be producing any eggs until at least 5.0, I have a way to go.  Oh well, I want puppies so the testing is ok.

May 3, 2006 (Day 2 cycle)

Dear Diary, mom took me to the vet today to be a pin cushion for some weird test.  I guess they call it brucellosis.  I heard mom say that it is a bacterial disease that is well known by food animal producers. It is present in cattle, sheep, goats, dogs and humans as well as pigs.  Some of its causes are abortions, infertility and decreased milk yield.  I need a brucellosis test to detect if this bacteria is present.  I wouldn't want to pass it on to Bud.  I was negative.  Bud was a pin cushion too and tested negative as well.  So, no sexually transmitted diseases here!

May 2, 2006 (Day 1 of cycle)
Dear Diary, today I started my season.  I surprised mom "bigtime" by coming in before she thought.  HA, that will keep her on her toes!
